The Strength of My Life

Psalms 27

This Psalm was written by David, a man who had witnessed some of the most miraculous victories that any King in the history of Israel had seen. He starts off this chapter, speaking of danger that he had faced "When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell. Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident." The danger he speaks of is legitimate, "the wicked... enemies and foes... an host... war" but even in the midst of danger, he speaks daring, "they stumbled and fell... my heart shall not fear... in this will I be confident." Confidence in the midst of war? A heart that will not fear? But David what about running from Saul? What about when you failed? What about when the enemies did not fall as easily as you wanted? David was not writing this at a young age but in his older years, and by that time he had realized, "the Lord is the strength of my life" you see we are to be strong, we are to fight and win the war, but it is "in the power of His might." May we learn like David had to focus on who gives us the fight. By the power of His might may we see our difficulties stumble and fall. Press on soldiers we have conquered and we shall conquer!
