Acts 20:7 And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.
Acts 20:9 And there sat in a window a certain young man named Eutychus, being fallen into a deep sleep: and as Paul was long preaching, he sunk down with sleep, and fell down from the third loft, and was taken up dead.
We see this young man sitting in a dangerous location. He was located in the window of the upper room where the disciples were having church. Many assumptions could be made about why he chose his seating location. I believe it was so that he could see the best of both worlds. It was a cool spot and if church got boring he could look out into the world to see what they were doing.
Let us notice...
His Position That Was Grievous
The place where he sits represents a halfway committed lifestyle. Oh yes, he is "in church" but he is awfully close to being "out of church!"
There are a lot of things in life where a half way job, wont due.
1. Doing a halfway job building a building, is dangerous for it will fall on you.
2. A garage door that opens halfway is useless.
3. A can opener that works halfway is frustrating.
4. A lawnmower that works halfway is time-consuming.
5. A life that is only halfway given to God, results in a life wasted!.
We also need to note...
The Potential That He Was Given
According to Strong's Hebrew and Greek Dictionaries his name means, "well fated, that is, fortunate." He was not someone who did not have a chance, we see this partly because of his name but also because of where he was! He was in church! In a well-lit upper room, listening to the Apostle Paul! And yet he FELL out of church. Note that when he fell, everyone knew it. It did not matter if Paul was on his best point in his sermon, when the young man fell out the church service stopped!
Thank God we can see...
The Power that Gave Life
Acts 20:10 And Paul went down, and fell on him, and embracing him said, Trouble not yourselves; for his life is in him.
Acts 20:11 When he therefore was come up again, and had broken bread, and eaten, and talked a long while, even till break of day, so he departed.
Acts 20:12 And they brought the young man alive, and were not a little comforted.
Thank God there is power to see life returned! The God that breathed the first breath into Adam's nostrils, breathed life back into this young man. My friend that same power is prevalent today! God has the power to bring spiritual life back to your heart if you have gone cold. Has it been a while since you have went to church? Did something happen that helped push you out of a church house window? God is waiting to breath life back into your life! Please don't wait, we would love to pray with you please call us! We would love to see you alive! Back in the House of God!
